The Ordway, or what would eventually become The Ordway Wallet, was the very first design I created. As this wallet is being discontinued, I'd like to take a moment to share in photos the progression of this wallet from the first iteration to the wallet that stood as Lockeland Leatherworks' flagship design, as well as my betterment as a maker.
Ordway Wallets are available for purchase until February 13th, 2017. All purchases will include a 3-Pack of Original Field Notes.
The wallet above was the very first project I completed after returning home from the local Tandy Leather, where I first stopped once I decided to venture into this craft. This piece was made from hand-stained vegetable tanned leather. The shape of the interior pockets was built from the raw edge of the leather and is very reminiscent of the final design.
As I was still new to this craft, I found myself experimenting every chance I had. The wallet above was made from a much heavier leather. So heavy, in fact, that I had to remove material from outter leather so that the wallet would fold. This was the first iteration which featured the notebook sleeve on the right-hand side. Needless to say, I knew almost immediately that this was a failed attempt.
The wallet shown above was created only a few months after beginning this craft and was the first time that the current aesthetic began to take shape.
After a few month of bettering my skills as a maker I returned to this design and decided to add a leather lining pocket. The wallet shown above was my first victory as a leathercrafter. Up to this point I hadn't yet created anything that I felt I could be completely proud of. I carried this wallet for nearly a year, after which I went back to the drawing board to refine this design.
As you'll notice there is no "Lockeland Leatherworks" makers mark on this piece. It would still be months before I would decide to create a brand for myself and pursue selling my goods.
After working through this design for over a year, I had finally had a tangible piece of work that I was proud and excited to carry and stamp with the Lockeland Leatherworks' brand.
I can say without a doubt that The Ordway Wallet was the one design that led me to pursue Lockeland Leatherworks as something more than a hobby. I'd like to thank everyone who has made this wallet a part of their everyday carry. I look forward to creating a new design that will accommodate your pocket notebooks.
